Touch preparation for the rapid diagnosis of disseminated aspergillosis

چکیده
KOH: potassium hydroxide INTRODUCTION Aspergillus sp, Candida sp, and zygomycoses can disseminate rapidly in an immunocompromised host, causing significant morbidity and mortality. Serum testing, tissue biopsy, and culture are used to confirm a suspected diagnosis, but waiting for results may delay initiation of life-saving treatment. We report a case of disseminated aspergillosis presenting with a cutaneous nodule. A rapid diagnosis was made on direct visualization of the fungal organisms on a touch preparation from a skin biopsy, and treatment was immediately initiated.

The Value of Touch Preparation for Rapid Diagnosis of Brain Tumors as an Intraoperative Consultation
Background: The touch preparation technique is an accurate and rapid method, and when used as intraoperative consultation examination technique it preserves a good amount of tissue for paraffin embedded sections. This study aimed at examining the accuracy of the touch preparation technique by comparing its diagnosis with that of final pathological diagnosis made by microscopic examinations. ...
متن کاملPrimary Gastrointestinal Aspergillosis Presenting As Multiple Ulcerated Colonic Masses: A Case Report
Gastrointestinal aspergillosis most often occurs in the setting of disseminated infection from a primary pulmonary site and primary gastrointestinal aspergillosis is an unusual presentation. We report a 7 year old female child with aplastic anemia, who was under treatment but experienced periods of neutropenia. She had no evidence of respiratory aspergillosis before the onset of abdominal s...

متن کاملMolecular approaches to diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis what we know and what we do not know.
Invasive aspergillosis (IA) are a major complication in immunocompromized patients where can be serious and rapidly fatal. Early diagnosis and early appropriate antifungal treatment is important in reducing mortality and morbidity. But despite many efforts to develop detection methods, the diagnosis of IA still remains challenging and current conventional methods are limited for adequate diagno...
متن کاملRapid diagnosis of azole-resistant aspergillosis by direct PCR using tissue specimens.
We report the use of PCR techniques on a formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissue specimen for direct detection of one dominant azole resistance mechanism in a case of disseminated invasive aspergillosis. Rapid detection of mutations associated with azole resistance directly in tissue significantly reduces diagnostic delay.
